New Secondary School Curriculum to Launch in 2027, Starting with Grade Six

The government announced plans to introduce a revised secondary education curriculum beginning in 2027, starting with grade six and gradually extending through grade twelve. The phased rollout was confirmed at a press conference on Wednesday at the Ministry of Education.

Education Adviser CR Abrar emphasized the need for a forward-thinking curriculum grounded in technology, inclusiveness, responsibility, and justice. While the previously reinstated 2012 curriculum will remain in effect next year, the new framework aims to lay the foundation for a more future-ready education system.

Senior Secretary Siddiq Zobair clarified that the curriculum would not be implemented all at once but through a gradual process. The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has already begun preliminary work on the revised content.

Abrar also announced the launch of an online teacher transfer system for colleges starting July 1, with a school-level system to follow. To support education sector reforms, the government has approved a Tk 2,000 crore bond and Tk 200 crore in cash for retirement and welfare benefits for MPO-listed private educators and staff.

The decision comes after the suspension of the ongoing curriculum reform in secondary grades following the July 2024 political transition. While the 2012 curriculum remains in place for now, the primary level continues to follow the revised version, with updated textbooks for 2026 nearing completion.
