Avner Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, secretly purchased an apartment in Oxford, UK, in October 2022 using the pseudonym “Avi Avner Segal,” Middle East Monitor reported. Israeli outlet Kalkalist revealed the £525,000 ($680,000) property purchase coincided with a drop in the pound following then-PM Liz Truss’s budget announcement, keeping the cost below the 2 million shekel declaration threshold for Israeli tax authorities.
Avner explained he legally changed his name for security reasons, fearing being targeted abroad without Shin Bet protection. He insisted all tax requirements were met and the name change was officially registered with Israeli authorities. The 29-year-old currently works at consulting firm Strategy& (PwC).
