NCP Slams Arrest of Actress Nusrat Faria, Calls July Massacre Trial a ‘Farce’

The National Citizens Party (NCP) has strongly criticized the arrest of actress Nusrat Faria, calling it a distraction and a mockery of the ongoing July massacre trial process. In a press release issued on Monday night (May 19) by Joint Member Secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat, the NCP claimed that the judicial system is being undermined by selective and arbitrary arrests.

The statement highlighted that Nusrat Faria was arrested at Shahjalal International Airport and sent to jail based on a murder attempt case filed at Bhatara Police Station. Meanwhile, the party pointed out that former President Abdul Hamid—allegedly involved in the July coup-related violence—left the country without obstruction. They also noted that the identities of 626 individuals sheltered in cantonments post-coup remain undisclosed, and many who were actively involved in the violence continue public activities without accountability.

The NCP warned that these actions trivialize the genocide trial and may be part of a subversive effort by elements within the state to cast doubt on the July massacre trial. They also expressed disappointment over the lack of progress in forming the promised International Crimes Tribunal-2, meant to expedite justice.

The party demanded visible steps toward justice by July and urged law enforcement to act responsibly and avoid politically motivated or excessive legal actions.
