NCP Leader Questions Sheikh Mujib’s Role During Liberation War, Defends Tajuddin Ahmed’s Recognition

Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the northern region of the National Citizens Party (NCP), stirred debate with a Facebook post on Wednesday (June 4), asserting that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, though instrumental before the Liberation War, was not active on the ground during the conflict. He claimed Sheikh Mujib was “deliberately captured” by the Pakistan army and remained jailed until after Bangladesh’s victory.

Alam defended Tajuddin Ahmed, who led the war effort in Mujib’s absence, criticizing the revocation of his freedom fighter status. He condemned the move as unjust and questioned the Ministry’s priorities, suggesting it should focus on removing fake freedom fighters instead of those who played key roles in the war.

“History should never be on the side of those in power,” Alam wrote. “It should be allowed to run its course.”
