NCP Leader Hasnat Abdullah Labels Bangladesh Constitution as ‘Awami Constitution’

Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser for the southern region of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has declared that Bangladesh’s current constitution is essentially an “Awami constitution.”

Speaking to reporters on Thursday while visiting the grave of martyr Sajjad Hossain in Saidpur, Nilphamari, Hasnat said, “This is not truly a people’s constitution; it belongs to the Awami League.”

Emphasising the need for systemic change, he stated, “Our fight was for a new Bangladesh. Changing governments alone is not enough. We must change the systems that produce fascists. For that, we need constitutional and administrative reforms.”

Honouring Sajjad Hossain’s sacrifice, Hasnat said, “He gave his life to overthrow dictatorship. Our march today is part of building that new Bangladesh.”

The NCP’s ‘march for change’ started in Syedpur and will continue through Nilphamari, Panchagarh, and Thakurgaon in the coming days as part of their ongoing political mobilisation.
