Sarjis, a key organizer of the Jatiya Nagorik Party’s (NCP) north region, declared on Monday that the Awami League has no political future in Bangladesh and should only return to face justice. Speaking at a leaflet distribution and street rally in Domar upazila, he accused former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of suppressing dissent and being responsible for political violence.
He emphasized that the current interim government arose from a people’s uprising and not partisan influence, stressing the need for systemic reform and transparency before any national election. Sarjis denounced past nomination practices based on financial clout and called for the election of honest, capable individuals regardless of political affiliation.
Encouraging women and youth to reject corruption and hold civil servants accountable, he also criticized the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for past political bias. Sarjis warned current leaders against repeating the oppressive rhetoric of previous regimes and called for respectful, merit-based politics to shape Bangladesh’s future.
