Md. Nazmul Thakur, the Itna Upazila convener of the National Citizens Party in Kishoreganj, has been permanently expelled from the party after a video of him consuming drugs went viral. The expulsion was confirmed in a press release signed by Ratul Nahid Bhuiyan, office secretary of NCP’s Kishoreganj district committee, on Wednesday, October 1.
The press release stated that Nazmul Thakur was permanently expelled from all levels of the organisation’s positions and responsibilities, including his primary membership, for being involved in activities that go against the organisation’s policies and ideology. It further stated that clear and specific allegations had been proven against him of serious organisational disciplinary violations and involvement in activities contrary to the party’s policies and ideology.
Considering the severity and importance of the allegations, the expulsion was carried out on the instructions of district convener Sheikh Khairul Kabir, on the advice of central committee chief organiser Sarjis Alam and Dhaka divisional organising secretary Saifullah Haider, according to the notice. It added that, in accordance with the organisation’s constitution and disciplinary code, Nazmul Thakur has been permanently suspended from all levels of positions and responsibilities, including the primary membership of the organisation.
Confirming the expulsion, District Convener Sheikh Khairul Kabir said that a video of Nazmul Thakur consuming drugs had gone viral on social media. The matter came to the party’s attention, and hence the decision was taken. The expulsion reflects the party’s stance on maintaining discipline and taking action against members whose conduct is found to be in violation of its policies and ideological principles.
