The Ministry of Education has officially renamed “Bangabandhu Government College” in Chintamanastha, Phulbari Upazila, Dinajpur, to “Chintaman Government College.” The change was confirmed in a notice signed by Md. Mahbub Alam, Deputy Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department, on May 29.
Md. Nazibor Rahman, acting principal of the college, confirmed that the old signage has been removed and replaced with the new name. The college, originally established in 1998 during the Awami League government, was nationalized in 2021.
The renaming has sparked political reactions. Upazila BNP Acting President Nabiul Islam welcomed the change, criticizing the previous naming trend as politically motivated. Meanwhile, the Upazila Secondary Education Office awaits an official letter before making further comments. All future operations of the institution will now proceed under its new name.
