Nadia Pathan Warns Rumin Farhana Over ‘Ugly’ Remarks Against BNP, Accuses Her of Ingratitude and Crossing Tolerance Limit

Bangladesh Nationalist Party reserved women’s seat MP and Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP leader Nadia Pathan Papon has said Barrister Rumin Farhana has been making “ugly” comments about BNP and its top leadership. She warned that such statements are crossing the tolerance limit of party leaders and activists and that an unpleasant situation could arise if patience is lost. Nadia made the remarks while talking to reporters after a tree plantation programme in Bekinagar village of Chandura union in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Thursday, October 1, in the afternoon. The local BNP organised the programme as part of the “250 million tree plantation programme in five years” announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Nadia Pathan accused Rumeen Farhana of ingratitude, alleging that BNP had given her political recognition by making her a member of parliament from a reserved women’s seat in the past, but she is now expressing extreme ungratefulness to the party. She claimed that in the past 17 years, the sacrifices of persecuted BNP leaders and activists and the party’s statements were written by others, and Rumeen Farhana only presented them to the public. Criticising her, Nadia said, “She often says, ‘You have to leave your father’s politics.’ Hey brother, if you have your own qualifications, why do you have to chant your father’s name over and over again? You have to grow up on your own qualifications.”

Commenting on similarities between Rumin Farhana’s behaviour and that of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Nadia Pathan said, “It seems that Rumin Farhana has taken on the same responsibility as Sheikh Hasina, who used to make inappropriate and ugly comments about BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.” She strongly protested Rumin Farhana’s recent comment about Tarique Rahman in particular, saying, “How can she say such unrealistic and ignorant things that Tarique Rahman is suffering from malnutrition? Is she his personal doctor?”

The remarks add to the ongoing internal tensions and public exchanges within BNP and its wider political circles, with Nadia Pathan making clear that the patience of party leaders and activists is being tested by Rumin Farhana’s statements. She warned that if that patience is lost, an unpleasant situation could arise, and she framed Rumin Farhana’s recent comments as both ungrateful and politically damaging. The tree plantation event provided the setting for her comments, but the focus quickly shifted to the party’s internal discipline and the limits of acceptable criticism against its top leadership. Nadia’s accusations and warnings reflect growing frustration among sections of BNP over Rumin Farhana’s public statements, and they signal that the issue is likely to remain a point of contention within the party and in the broader political discourse.
