Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is set to link up with Delhi Capitals for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season after fulfilling his national duty in the opening T20I against the UAE in Sharjah on Friday.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had earlier approved Mustafizur’s request to participate in the IPL from May 18 to 24. As a result, he will miss the second and final T20I of the series on May 19 to travel to India and join the franchise.
Mustafizur was signed by Delhi Capitals as a replacement for Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, who exited the tournament after it was temporarily suspended amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions. With the IPL set to resume this weekend, Delhi will face Gujarat Titans on Sunday, May 18.
This marks Mustafizur’s third stint with Delhi Capitals, having previously represented the team in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, during which he claimed nine wickets. With Australian pacer Mitchell Starc confirming he will not return for the rest of the season, Mustafizur will be Delhi’s sole overseas left-arm fast bowling option.
Delhi Capitals currently sit fifth on the points table with 13 points from 11 games and remain strong contenders for a playoff berth. Winning their remaining three group-stage matches would guarantee them a spot in the knockout stage without relying on other match outcomes.
Following the IPL, Mustafizur is expected to rejoin the Bangladesh national team for the scheduled five-match T20I series against Pakistan. However, the tour’s confirmation is pending due to ongoing security concerns, and the final decision rests with the Bangladesh government.
