Customs officials at Mumbai airport recovered 16 non-venomous snakes, including garter snakes and Kenyan sand boas, from a passenger arriving from Thailand on Sunday. This marks the third such smuggling incident this month. Earlier in June, two passengers were arrested for attempting to smuggle venomous snakes and other animals. Wildlife trade watchdog TRAFFIC has warned of increasing pet trafficking on the Thailand-India route, with over 7,000 live and dead animals seized in the last three and a half years. An investigation into the latest case is ongoing.
