Mirra Andreeva Overcomes Bronzetti to Reach Wimbledon Third Round

Mirra Andreeva advanced to the third round of Wimbledon after defeating Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti in straight sets on Thursday. The 17-year-old Russian dominated the first set, winning 14 of 16 first service points and breaking Bronzetti twice to seal it in just 24 minutes. However, the second set proved far more competitive, as Bronzetti broke for a 4-2 lead and had two set points at 5-4. Andreeva held her nerve to save both set points and force a tie-break, which she controlled decisively to claim victory on her second match point.

Reflecting on her performance, Andreeva admitted feeling “super nervous” playing on the court for the first time but expressed relief at securing the win. Coached by former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez, Andreeva finished with four aces, just one double fault, and an impressive 57% success rate on second serve points, significantly above her season average.

This marks Andreeva’s third main draw appearance at Wimbledon. Last year, she exited in the first round, but in her debut as a 16-year-old qualifier in 2023, she reached the fourth round, becoming the youngest to do so since Coco Gauff in 2019. As she prepares to face American Hailey Baptiste in the third round, Andreeva continues her pursuit of Grand Slam success under Martinez’s experienced guidance, with their playful yet focused partnership evident during her post-match interview.
