Mark Ruffalo Fires Back at Kevin O’Leary Over Criticism of Billie Eilish’s Grammys Speech

Mark Ruffalo has publicly criticized Kevin O’Leary after the TV personality said celebrities should avoid speaking about politics in response to Billie Eilish’s Grammy Awards speech.

During her Song of the Year acceptance, Eilish condemned U.S. immigration policies and declared, “No one is illegal on stolen land,” while encouraging viewers to “keep fighting.” The remarks sparked backlash from conservative commentators, including O’Leary, who said on Fox News that entertainers should “shut your mouth, and just entertain.”

Ruffalo responded on Threads, accusing O’Leary of a “fantasy double standard,” arguing that public figures like O’Leary freely share opinions while criticizing artists for doing the same. He also mocked O’Leary’s recent acting cameo in Marty Supreme.

Eilish’s brother and collaborator Finneas also defended her, calling out critics in a separate post. Several other artists, including Bad Bunny, Shaboozey, and Olivia Dean, made politically charged remarks during the ceremony as well.
