The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Tuesday issued local warning signal no. 3 for sea ports in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Mongla, and Payra due to a developing low-pressure system over the northwestern Bay of Bengal. Fishing boats and trawlers have been advised to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution.
The weather in Cox’s Bazar has already turned rough with continuous rain and high waves, prompting tourist police and lifeguards to warn visitors against swimming. A 72-hour heavy rainfall warning is in effect for Chattogram and nearby divisions, with 44 to 88 mm of rainfall expected in 24 hours.
Meteorologists have also cautioned that the persistent rain may lead to landslides in parts of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, and the hill districts. Authorities remain on alert as the weather system could intensify further.
