LONDON, MAY 17: England cricket legend James Anderson is set to make his return for Lancashire on Friday, nearly a year after his emotional Test farewell at Lord’s.

The 42-year-old, the most successful fast bowler in Test history with 704 wickets—the highest by any England bowler in red-ball cricket—has not played a competitive match since his final international appearance against the West Indies in June last year.

Since stepping away from the international stage, Anderson has taken on a role as a bowling consultant with the England team, while maintaining that he still has more to contribute on the field. Earlier this year, he signed a one-year contract extension with his home county, Lancashire.

However, a calf injury sidelined him for the first five matches of the County Championship season. Now fit again, Anderson has been named in Lancashire’s squad for their clash against Derbyshire at Old Trafford, starting Friday.

Lancashire, currently at the bottom of the Second Division and winless so far this season, will be hoping the veteran pacer’s return provides the spark they need to turn their fortunes around.
