Liverpool Close to Historic €140M Deal for Florian Wirtz, Beating Out Bayern and Man City

Liverpool are on the brink of completing one of the summer’s biggest transfers, with German star Florian Wirtz poised to join the Premier League giants in a record-breaking move from Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old midfielder has reportedly agreed verbally to join the Merseyside club, turning down interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

Bayer Leverkusen have set a hefty €140 million price tag on Wirtz, and Liverpool have already submitted a €126 million bid as negotiations continue. If finalized, the deal would become the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, surpassing the €85 million spent on Darwin Núñez, and place Wirtz among the costliest German players ever.

According to Sky Italia, Wirtz has made it clear he only wants Liverpool, further accelerating talks. Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer confirmed the club’s withdrawal from the race, stating, “We admit defeat. Max Eberl informed us that Wirtz is on his way to Liverpool.”

Wirtz is coming off an exceptional season, being one of only two players across Europe’s top five leagues to notch double digits in both goals and assists. His blend of talent and long-term potential has made him Liverpool’s top target for the transfer window.
