Bangladesh T20 captain Liton Das cited poor bowling and sloppy fielding as key reasons behind his team’s stunning two-wicket loss to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the second T20 International, which allowed the hosts to level the series 1-1.
Despite setting a strong target of 205-5, Bangladesh failed to defend it, as UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem led a fierce counterattack with an 82 off 42 balls. Although his dismissal gave Bangladesh a chance to regain control, UAE’s lower-order held their nerve, chasing down 29 runs in the final two overs to seal a historic win.
“Every loss hurts, but still we batted well on this wicket,” said Liton after the match. He acknowledged the impact of dew and underscored the lack of execution in the middle overs and death bowling, along with fielding lapses.
Debutant Nahid Rana had a difficult outing, conceding 50 runs in four overs, despite taking two wickets. Liton admitted the young pacer fell short of expectations:
“What Nahid Rana did before his final over, we were expecting more from him. You can have good days and bad days. We’ll sit and talk.”
Liton, who showed signs of returning to form with a 32-ball 40, vowed to keep improving:
“What I did is not up to the mark, but I will try my best.”
Bangladesh had won the first T20 by 27 runs, but their inability to close out the second game leaves the series tied, raising concerns ahead of upcoming fixtures.
