Syed Khaled Ahmed delivered a standout performance with the ball, claiming 4 for 47 to put New Zealand A in deep trouble on a rain-affected opening day of the first four-day match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. The visitors ended the day at 226 for 8.
Pacer Anamul Haque provided strong support with figures of 3 for 31, while Ebadot Hossain chipped in with 1 for 44, as Bangladesh’s pace trio dominated early proceedings.
After a delayed start due to rain, New Zealand A were put in to bat and quickly found themselves in dire straits at 101 for 6, undone by a relentless pace assault.
A vital seventh-wicket stand between Mitchell Hay and Dean Foxcroft offered some resistance, with the pair putting on a crucial 98-run partnership to steady the innings.
Khaled eventually broke the stand, clean bowling Foxcroft for 47. He then struck again shortly after, dismissing Adithya Ashok to leave New Zealand A reeling once more.
Mitchell Hay remained unbeaten on a resilient 68, while Kristian Clarke was not out on 12 at the close of play.
