Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has signed a three-year contract with Arsenal, ending his seven-year stint at Chelsea. Arsenal confirmed his £50 million transfer on Tuesday (July 1).
Kepa, 30, became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in 2018 when Chelsea signed him from Athletic Bilbao for £71 million. He played 163 games for Chelsea, winning the Europa League (2019), Champions League (2021), and Club World Cup (2022), but spent the last two seasons on loan at Real Madrid and Bournemouth.
At Arsenal, Kepa will compete with fellow Spaniard David Raya, who has been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for the past two seasons. Coach Mikel Arteta stated that the signing aims to strengthen squad depth and create reliable alternatives for the demanding season ahead.
