Md. Arif Rabbani Isti (37), councilor of Ward No. 3 of Panchbibi Municipality and organizing secretary of the Joypurhat District Volunteer League, has been arrested by police.
He was apprehended by Panchbibi Police Station officers on Wednesday night (May 14) from his office in the Gohata area of the municipality, following a tip-off.
According to police sources, multiple cases — including one for murder — were filed against Arif Rabbani after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. He had reportedly gone into hiding following the murder case.
Panchbibi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mainul Hossain confirmed the arrest, stating that Rabbani is accused in several criminal cases and will be processed according to the law.
