Dhaka University campus was gripped by protests Monday evening as Jatiyotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) staged a fiery torch procession demanding justice for Shahriar Alam Sammo, a student murdered on May 13.
Led by DU JCD President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon, nearly 200 students marched from the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), chanting slogans and calling for the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and Proctor over what they described as a “total failure” in ensuring campus safety.
Sammo, a student at the Institute of Education and Research, was killed at Suhrawardy Udyan. Protesters claim there has been little progress in the investigation and demanded swift arrests. JCD leaders declared the administration must be held accountable, urging immediate action and a safer university environment.
Despite growing tensions and calls for resignations, university officials have yet to issue a formal response.
