Jayawardene Backs Mumbai Indians’ Winning Mentality and Veterans Like Rohit for IPL Glory

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene believes the team’s proven “winning mentality” and the experience of players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah can drive them to another IPL title. After a shaky start to the season with four losses in five games, Mumbai rebounded to win seven of their next eight matches, earning a playoff spot.

Led by Hardik Pandya, the five-time champions beat Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the eliminator, setting up a clash with Punjab Kings on Sunday in Ahmedabad for a chance to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the June 3 final. Rohit starred with a commanding 81, while Bumrah impressed with economical bowling despite challenging dew conditions.

Jayawardene praised the senior players’ influence, citing their trophy-winning experience as vital in high-pressure games. Mumbai, tied with Chennai Super Kings as the most successful franchise in IPL history, now aim to extend their legacy with a sixth title. Punjab Kings, after a heavy loss to Bengaluru, will be fighting to keep their maiden title hopes alive.
