Japan will provide Bangladesh with a total of $1.063 billion in financial assistance, covering budget support, railway development, and educational scholarships. The agreement was formalized through a note exchange between the two nations in Tokyo on Friday, May 30.

Of the total, $418 million will be allocated as a Development Policy Loan (DPL) to support Bangladesh’s economic reforms and climate resilience initiatives. Additionally, $641 million will fund the conversion of the Joydevpur–Ishwardi railway line into a dual-gauge double track. Japan will also grant $4.2 million to support higher education and skills training for Bangladeshi students.

This commitment is a continuation of Japan’s long-standing partnership with Bangladesh, reinforcing cooperation in infrastructure, energy, and human resource development.
