A 10-bed Mother and Child Welfare Center in Madarganj Upazila, Jamalpur, built at a cost of Tk 45 million and inaugurated in 2016, remains largely non-functional due to severe manpower shortages. Despite having modern infrastructure—including an operation theater, lab, pharmacy, and residential facilities—the hospital lacks doctors, nurses, and essential staff. Currently, it is run only by a lab technologist and a peon-watchman, forcing pregnant women and children to seek care at distant upazila health centers. Of the 14 approved posts, 12 remain vacant. Locals and officials alike are urging urgent recruitment to make the hospital operational.
