A delegation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is set to meet Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Monday at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon to discuss the reinstatement of the party’s registration and electoral symbol.
The meeting, scheduled for 12:00 PM, was confirmed by Md. Ashraful Islam, Personal Secretary to the CEC, who noted that Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam personally requested the appointment. A four to five-member delegation is expected to attend.
This development follows the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division decision on Saturday, which overturned a 2013 High Court verdict that had declared Jamaat’s registration illegal. The ruling has paved the way for the party to formally seek restoration of its political status and electoral symbol through the EC.
