Jamaat Ameer: Reform and Election Roadmaps Key to Resolving Political Crisis

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman stated on Saturday night that a clear roadmap for reforms and elections could significantly ease the country’s ongoing political tensions. Speaking at a press briefing around 9:30 PM after a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, he emphasized the urgency of structured declarations to address unrest and restore public confidence.

“The rumors around the Chief Adviser’s resignation and recent unrest have somewhat subsided. But to ensure lasting peace, we need permanent solutions,” said Shafiqur. “A reform roadmap and an election roadmap are crucial for this.”

He stressed that elections must be held within the timeframe outlined by the Chief Adviser, but only after visible reform steps and measures toward justice are implemented. “Holding elections without completing reforms will fall short of public expectations,” he added.

Rahman also acknowledged differences among political parties regarding the reform agenda, calling it a natural outcome of a multiparty process. The meeting was attended by Jamaat leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, and National Consensus Commission Vice President Dr. Ali Riaz.

Earlier in the evening, Chief Adviser Yunus also met with a BNP delegation led by Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.
