Jagannath University (JnU) has officially received the full 200 acres of land for its long-awaited second campus in Keraniganj’s Taghoria, as the Dhaka district administration handed over the remaining 11.40 acres on Tuesday morning.
The second campus project was initiated following student protests in 2016 demanding residential facilities. In response, the government committed to building a modern, fully equipped campus including academic and administrative buildings, student halls, sports and medical facilities, a cafeteria, and a lake.
The project received final land approval in October 2018 and was greenlit by ECNEC shortly after. By early 2020, 188.60 acres had been acquired, with the remaining land now secured. With a total budget of Tk 19.2 billion, including an initial disbursement of Tk 9 billion in 2019, the project is set to significantly expand JnU’s infrastructure and academic capacity.
