Italy Urges Immediate Halt to Gaza Strikes, Rejects Forced Palestinian Expulsion

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Wednesday urged Israel to immediately cease its military operations in Gaza, condemning the scale of the response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack as “tragic and unacceptable.” Addressing the Italian parliament, Tajani reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defense but criticized the humanitarian toll and demanded strict adherence to international law.

He called for an immediate end to bombings, expedited humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages by Hamas. Tajani firmly rejected any proposals involving the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, including a plan reportedly backed by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

“The expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza is not and will never be an acceptable option,” he declared. Tajani expressed Italy’s support for Egypt’s Arab-led initiative focused on Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction, emphasizing that such efforts must not involve displacement.
