Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to visit Bangladesh in late August to boost cooperation on migration, labor mobility, and economic development. The two nations are currently engaged in high-level talks to finalize the visit, which is seen as a key step in strengthening bilateral ties.
The upcoming visit was first hinted at by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi during his recent trip to Dhaka, where he met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. Piantedosi emphasized Italy’s intention to deepen collaboration, particularly by recruiting more skilled workers from Bangladesh under a safe, regulated migration system.
Professor Yunus welcomed the initiative and expressed Bangladesh’s commitment to working with Italy to prevent illegal migration and human trafficking through legal channels.
This visit builds on the momentum from a bilateral meeting between Meloni and Yunus during the 78th UN General Assembly, where Italy pledged support for Bangladesh’s reform efforts aimed at improving socio-economic conditions.
