Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is likely to undertake a state visit to Bangladesh in August 2025, with key discussions expected to focus on legal labor migration, economic cooperation, and strengthening bilateral relations.
A senior official from Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry confirmed on Monday (May 19) that high-level talks are underway to finalize the visit, which is being viewed as a significant step toward deepening strategic engagement between the two countries.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedossi, during his recent visit to Dhaka, hinted at Meloni’s upcoming trip as part of broader efforts to enhance cooperation. He also conveyed Italy’s intention to “renew and relaunch” its partnership with Bangladesh in a meeting with Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Meloni had previously met Dr. Yunus during the 78th UN General Assembly in September 2024, where she reaffirmed Italy’s support for Bangladesh’s reform and development agenda, especially in areas promoting socio-economic progress.
