Israeli forces launched a deadly airstrike on Al-Ahly Hospital in Gaza City on Thursday, June 5, killing three journalists. On the same day, at least 23 more Palestinians were killed in separate Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip. The assault came amid rising international calls for a ceasefire and worsening humanitarian conditions.
A UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza was blocked after the United States cast the lone veto, preventing its adoption. Meanwhile, the Israel- and U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation suspended operations for the second consecutive day, following deadly strikes outside its aid distribution center.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israel’s ongoing military operations have so far killed at least 54,607 Palestinians and injured over 125,000. The war was triggered by Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which killed 1,139 people and resulted in more than 200 hostages being taken. The continued violence has deepened the humanitarian crisis and escalated tensions in the region.
