Ishraque Hossain Suspends Protest, Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Interim Government

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has temporarily suspended his ongoing protest at Kakrail, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to the interim government to take visible action on his demands.

The announcement came on Thursday afternoon, marking a brief pause in the sit-in that began the day before. On Wednesday morning, Ishraque’s supporters launched a protest demanding that he be sworn in as the legitimate mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Demonstrators occupied the protest site overnight, maintaining pressure on authorities.

As the demonstration resumed on Thursday, BNP activists were seen chanting slogans demanding Ishraque’s immediate swearing-in and also calling for the resignation of two advisors linked to the current administration.

Hossain’s 48-hour ultimatum signals a strategic shift in protest tactics while keeping the pressure on the interim government. It remains to be seen whether the authorities will respond within the deadline—or face renewed agitation.
