Iran Signals Willingness to Negotiate on Nuclear Program, But Rejects Enrichment Suspension

Iran has expressed openness to renewed negotiations with the United States over its nuclear program, with a key condition that its right to peaceful nuclear energy remains protected. In an interview on May 26, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai stated that Iran is willing to compromise, but firmly rejected any proposals to suspend uranium enrichment, particularly for a three-year period.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump described recent talks between U.S. and Iranian delegations as “very good.” However, tensions remain, as a Trump adviser reiterated that the U.S. seeks the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Baghai cautioned that any attempt by the U.S. to limit Iran’s nuclear rights would derail the negotiation process. Iran is currently awaiting further details from Oman, the mediator in the talks, regarding the next round of discussions.

While both sides have engaged in several rounds of talks in the past, uranium enrichment remains a major sticking point in efforts to resolve the longstanding nuclear dispute.
