The Indian Premier League (IPL) final will now be played in Ahmedabad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday, as it revealed the updated venues for the playoffs of the ongoing T20 tournament.
The revised schedule comes after the IPL was temporarily paused due to the conflict between India and Pakistan, leading to a nine-day delay in the tournament’s conclusion. The final is now set for June 3, instead of its original date.
Mullanpur, located in New Chandigarh, will host the first qualifier and eliminator matches on May 29 and May 30, respectively. The world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad will then host the second qualifier on June 1, followed by the final two days later.
“The new venues for the Playoffs were decided by the IPL Governing Council keeping in mind the weather conditions and other logistical factors,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Originally, Hyderabad and Kolkata were scheduled to host the last four games, but the week-long pause and subsequent ceasefire led to the shift in plans.
Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has evolved into the world’s richest cricket league, generating billions in revenue and significantly contributing to both the Indian economy and the BCCI’s financial growth.
