Imran Khan Calls for Nationwide Political Movement from Prison, Rejects Compromise with Government

Former Pakistani Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has called on his party leaders and supporters to prepare for a nationwide political movement, according to a statement relayed by his sister Aleema Khan after visiting him at Adiala Jail. Speaking to Geo News on May 26, Aleema revealed that Imran issued the directive from his prison cell, urging a complete reorganization of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and warning against members who maintain secret ties with the government.

Imran Khan reportedly stated he is unwilling to compromise with the current administration, even if it means remaining in prison for life. His sister also alleged inhumane treatment in custody, claiming that Imran has only been allowed one phone call to his children in the past eight months, and that prison authorities have now banned all family visits.

Despite his hardline stance, party insiders disclosed that informal talks are ongoing between PTI leaders and the government to secure Khan’s release. These negotiations, reportedly led by PTI chairman Barrister Gauhar Khan and initiated by government advisor Muhammad Ali Saif, have stalled due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Imran Khan, who rose to power in 2018 with military support, was ousted in 2022 through a no-confidence vote. He has been imprisoned since August 2023 on multiple corruption charges.
