Home Ministry Directs Law Enforcement to Begin Preparations for 2026 National Election

The Home Ministry has instructed law enforcement agencies to start preparing for Bangladesh’s next national election, expected to take place in February 2026, local media reported.

During a meeting in Dhaka on Monday, officials outlined plans for police, RAB, BGB, and other forces to conduct two joint drills—one in September and another shortly before the election—to strengthen coordination and emergency response.

An adviser at the meeting emphasised the need for readiness to handle possible election-related violence, stating, “If unrest breaks out at any polling centre, forces must know how to respond together.”

While police noted overall improvements in law and order, they expressed concern about the rising number of robbery cases. The meeting also highlighted the need for more serious attention to the handling of rape cases, including unreported incidents.

Senior officials from various agencies attended the meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss security strategies ahead of the upcoming election.
