High Court Grants Bail to Zubaida Rahman in Corruption Case, Accepts Appeal for Hearing

The High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, in a corruption case where she was previously sentenced to three years in prison. The court also accepted her appeal for a hearing.

The order was issued by a bench led by Justice Md Khasruzzaman. Representing Zubaida during the hearing were senior lawyers SM Shahjahan, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and Barrister Kayser Kamal.

On Tuesday, the same court had condoned a 587-day delay in filing her appeal, which was submitted well beyond the 30-day legal deadline following the trial court’s verdict.

Additionally, the High Court stayed the enforcement of the fine imposed on Zubaida by the lower court and requested the case record for review, according to her lawyer, Advocate Maksud Ullah.
