Hamza Chowdhury Arrives in Dhaka to Boost Bangladesh Ahead of Asian Cup Qualifier

England-based defensive midfielder Hamza Chowdhury has landed in Dhaka to join the Bangladesh national football team ahead of a crucial AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Singapore. This marks the Leicester City player’s first appearance on home soil for Bangladesh, following his international debut in a goalless draw against India in Shillong last March.

Hamza arrived slightly behind schedule at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:55 am on Monday, June 2, and proceeded directly to the team hotel. Bangladesh will face Singapore on June 10 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, with a possible friendly against Bhutan being considered beforehand. However, head coach Javier Cabrera has yet to confirm whether Hamza will participate in the warm-up match, though he aims to give the midfielder match time before the main fixture.

With all four teams in Group C—Bangladesh, India, Singapore, and Hong Kong—currently tied on one point, a win against Singapore could potentially put Bangladesh at the top of the group. The national squad, led by captain Jamal Bhuiyan, is intensifying its training sessions, having already completed two days of practice in Dhaka.
