Palestinian resistance groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad have strongly condemned recent remarks by U.S. Republican Congressman Randy Fine, who suggested dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza to force an unconditional surrender, likening the situation to World War II.
In a statement released via Shehab News Agency on Saturday (May 24), Hamas called the comment an incitement to genocide and a blatant crime against humanity. They criticized the statement as evidence of deep-rooted fascist racism among some American politicians and urged the U.S. administration and Congress to issue formal condemnation.
Hamas stressed that advocating the use of weapons of mass destruction against more than two million civilians is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. They also said such rhetoric only strengthens Palestinian resolve and further reveals the true face of the Israeli occupation and its allies.
Islamic Jihad echoed the condemnation, calling the statement “racist, hateful, and tantamount to a call for genocide.”
Fine, a Florida Republican, made the remarks on Fox News, saying, “We didn’t negotiate with the Nazis or Japanese to surrender. We dropped two nuclear bombs. The same should happen in Gaza.”
The backlash comes as Gaza continues to endure a relentless Israeli offensive. According to the latest figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 53,822 Palestinians have been killed and 122,382 injured since October 7, 2023.
