Borussia Dortmund advanced to the Club World Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Monterrey, thanks to a first-half brace from Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean striker scored in the 14th and 24th minutes, both assisted by Karim Adeyemi, giving Dortmund a strong lead at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Monterrey pulled one back early in the second half through Germán Berterame and pushed for an equaliser, with Sergio Ramos almost forcing extra time with a stoppage-time header that narrowly missed. Despite Monterrey’s late pressure, Dortmund held on to secure the win.
The victory sets up a high-profile quarter-final clash against Real Madrid. Guirassy’s two goals marked his 37th of the season, continuing his prolific scoring run, while Dortmund will be without Jobe Bellingham in the next round due to suspension, missing the chance to face his brother Jude Bellingham.
