The Bangladesh government has formed an 11-member high-level committee to inspect and assess the condition of priceless jewelry, including the legendary Dariya-e-Noor diamond, which has been under official custody for the past 117 years.
Chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, the committee includes top officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministries of Home, Lands, Law, and Culture, Bangladesh Bank, Sonali Bank, the National Museum, and a gem expert. The initiative, announced by the Land Ministry, aims to thoroughly document the types, authenticity, and condition of the gems housed in the secured lockers of the historic Dhaka Nawab Estate.
Once the inspection is complete, the government will consult legal experts to decide on the preservation, exhibition, or continued custody of the artifacts. The move marks a major step in re-evaluating one of the country’s most iconic historical legacies and ensuring the future safeguarding of its royal treasures.
