Starting Thursday, government officers and employees across Bangladesh will observe a one-hour work abstention from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM daily, protesting the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. The announcement was made by Badiul Kabir, Co-chairman of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum, during a press conference at the Secretariat.
Kabir stated that while a potential withdrawal of the ordinance is under review at the highest levels of government, including by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, employees must remain patient. He emphasized that the protest is peaceful and designed not to disrupt critical public services, especially with Eid-ul-Azha and the national budget approaching.
The abstention will be observed at all levels, from the Secretariat to field offices nationwide, with essential services like hospitals and budget-related departments urged to minimize participation to avoid impacting the public. The forum also plans to submit memorandums to the advisory council explaining their demands.
