Government Lowers Profit Rates on National Savings Schemes

The Internal Resources Department has reduced profit rates for five savings schemes under the National Savings Directorate, effective July 1. The new rates now range between 11.82% and 11.98%, down from 12.25%-12.55% set earlier this year. The affected schemes include Family Savings Certificate, 5-year Bangladesh Savings Certificate, 3-monthly Profit-Based Savings Certificate, Pensioner Savings Certificate, and Post Office Fixed Deposit accounts. Rates for Wage Earner Development Bonds, US Dollar Premium Bonds, US Dollar Investment Bonds, and Post Office general accounts remain unchanged. Analysts warn this reduction, aimed at aligning with current financial trends, may burden low-income groups and retirees relying on these savings.
