In response to ongoing protests against the ‘Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025’, the government has restructured a standing committee to evaluate and address the concerns of public sector employees. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a circular on Sunday announcing the formation of the 10-member body.
Chaired by an Additional Secretary of the ministry, the committee includes Joint Secretaries from key divisions such as Organization and Management, Rules, Field Administration, and Administration. Representatives from the Cabinet Division, Finance Ministry, Home Affairs Ministry, and Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division will also serve on the committee.
The Secretariat and Welfare Wing’s Joint Secretary will act as the Member Secretary, with the authority to co-opt additional members if necessary.
Amid ongoing demonstrations at the Secretariat for a second consecutive day, the committee is tasked with reviewing the legitimacy and practicality of employee demands and providing recommendations. Monthly meetings and direct consultations with employee representatives are part of the committee’s operating plan.
