Leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Germany marked the 44th martyrdom anniversary of President Ziaur Rahman with a prayer and discussion meeting in Frankfurt on May 31. During the event, party leaders emphasized that independent Bangladesh emerged through Ziaur Rahman’s declaration of independence and his leadership during the Liberation War.
The meeting, chaired by BNP Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Dewan Shafiqul Islam and conducted by senior leader Masud Reza, highlighted Ziaur Rahman’s contributions to state-building, development politics, and the launch of the 19-point program. Keynote speaker Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and special guest former MP Shirin Sultana addressed the gathering virtually from Bangladesh.
Several senior German BNP leaders also spoke, urging unity among party members at home and abroad, inspired by Ziaur Rahman’s ideals. The event concluded with special prayers for the late president, party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s health, and the peace and prosperity of Bangladesh.
