RAB-7 has apprehended a fugitive man who had been sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case filed in Mirsarai upazila, Chattogram. The arrest took place during a late-night operation on Thursday in the Samadnagar area of Jatrabari, Dhaka.
The arrested individual has been identified as Md Dulal, 30, son of Nurul Huda from Uttar Morgang village under Sonagazi Police Station in Feni district.
Dulal had been convicted under the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Children Act in connection with a rape case filed at Jorarganj Police Station on August 23, 2019. Following the trial, he was sentenced to life in prison and fined Tk 1 lakh. However, he fled and had been evading arrest ever since.
According to RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director ARM Muzaffar Hossain, the arrest was made following intelligence reports. Dulal had been in hiding for seven years before the elite force tracked him down and detained him in Dhaka. He has since been handed over to the local police for further legal proceedings.
