American No.5 seed Taylor Fritz staged a dramatic comeback to defeat France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-7 (6), 6-7 (8), 6-4, 7-6 (6), 6-4 in Wimbledon’s first round. The match resumed Tuesday after an overnight curfew suspension, with Fritz needing only 35 minutes to win the deciding set. Mpetshi Perricard fired a record-breaking 153 mph serve, the fastest in Wimbledon history, and hit 37 aces to Fritz’s 29. Fritz, runner-up at the 2024 US Open, was relieved to advance, saying, “I really didn’t want to go out in the first round.”
Elsewhere, third seed Alexander Zverev suffered a shock five-set defeat to Arthur Rinderknech, while top seed Jannik Sinner cruised past Luca Nardi. Jack Draper advanced after Sebastian Baez retired injured, Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul secured straight-set wins, and Lorenzo Musetti and Alexander Bublik were among seeded players upset on Tuesday.
