Laurent Nuñez is exploring options to block a planned June concert by Kanye West in Marseille, citing the artist’s past antisemitic remarks and pro-Nazi statements.
The potential ban follows reports that French authorities are reviewing “all possibilities” to prevent the performance at the Vélodrome stadium. The move comes shortly after the UK barred West from entering the country, leading to the cancellation of his scheduled appearance at London’s Wireless Festival.
Local opposition in Marseille has also been strong, with Mayor Benoît Payan publicly rejecting the concert, stating that the city should not host figures associated with hate speech.
While the Marseille show faces uncertainty, West’s other European performances in the Netherlands and Spain are still scheduled to proceed for now.
