Former MP and Ex-Cricket Captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy Placed on Four-Day Remand in Explosives Case

A Manikganj court has granted a four-day remand for former Member of Parliament and Bangladesh cricket captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy in connection with an explosives case.

The order was issued on Thursday by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury, who directed that Durjoy be sent to jail after his remand period ends.

Durjoy was produced before the court around 3:30 PM by Manikganj Sadar Police, who sought a 10-day remand. After hearing both prosecution and defense arguments, the court approved four days.

Special Public Prosecutor Humayun Kabir represented the state, while senior lawyers Nazrul Islam Badsha and Azizul Haque sought bail and opposed the remand request.

Durjoy, who served as MP for Manikganj-1 under the ruling Awami League in the 2014 and 2018 elections, had reportedly been in hiding since August 5 before being arrested from his Lalmatia residence in Dhaka on Wednesday night by the district Detective Branch.

He faces multiple cases involving corruption and financial irregularities. Earlier this year, a Dhaka court ordered the seizure of his Lalmatia apartment, land, three vehicles, and a freeze on 12 of his bank accounts.

Manikganj Sadar Police Station OC Amanullah confirmed the remand, stating it was approved to allow further interrogation into the explosives charges.
