Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed will meet with National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials on Tuesday (May 20) to discuss pressing issues surrounding the proposed NBR reform, according to NBR’s Public Relations Officer Al Amin Sheikh. The meeting is scheduled for 3:30 PM at the Finance Ministry.
The announcement follows a six-hour pen-down strike observed on Sunday by the NBR Reform Unity Council, demanding immediate withdrawal of the proposed Revenue Ordinance, public release of the NBR Reform Advisory Committee’s report, and meaningful stakeholder engagement in any systemic overhaul.
The Council emphasized that their movement seeks a peaceful and inclusive resolution, urging the government to engage in open dialogue.
“Our door for dialogue has always been open, remains open, and will continue to remain open,” said the Council in a Saturday statement.
Earlier, a five-hour pen-down strike was also observed across Customs, VAT, and Tax offices nationwide, with widespread participation from NBR officials and expressions of solidarity from various business and civil society groups.
The Unity Council criticized the government for issuing the reform ordinance without consulting key NBR stakeholders and called for transparent, timely, and sustainable reforms that serve national interests.
